AXA Investment Managers has expanded its UK equities team with the appointment of ex-BlackRock and Aviva fund manager Simon Young.
Joining on 17 September, Young will take control of the £85m AXA Framlington Blue Chip Equity Income fund while also helping with the team's UK research.
The group said this will enable current manager of the fund Jamie Forbes-Wilson to focus on its AXA Distribution funds, which he has been running since February 2016.
Young joins from Heartwood Partners, an investor relations consultancy. Prior to that he was a fund manager at Aviva Investors for two years, where he managed the firm's UK Equity fund and the RBS Growth fund.
He started his career at BlackRock Fund Management in 1997 and was there for 18 years, managing over £1.5bn in UK equity income and core UK strategies.
Rob Bailey, head of UK wholesale distribution at AXA IM, said: "This hire will help grow our assets further in the UK equity income space, with Simon working closely with George Luckraft on our successful UK equity income range.
"Simon brings significant additional large-cap equity investing experience to the team, he comes with new ideas and a fresh perspective that will complement the existing skill-set."
Young added: "I am thrilled to be joining AXA IM and to be returning to doing what I love in portfolio management after time spent in a new venture working on the other side of the fence in investor relations.
"I have known and respected my new colleagues throughout my career and I am looking forward to contributing to such a tight knit, well regarded and cohesive team."
In June, AXA IM made organisational and structural changes to its business in a move to protect its competitiveness and drive future growth, which resulted in up to 40 people leaving in the UK.
