Godber & Hamilton: Markets rife for active managers as stock correlations hit decade lows

UK elections will throw up opportunities

Polar Capital managers George Godber and Georgina Hamilton have said the conditions for active fund managers, especially those with a value strategy, have improved since the Brexit vote as stock-by-stock correlations have sunk to ten-year lows.

The pair, who previously worked together at Miton running its UK Value Opportunities fund that reached a peak of £800m in assets, were recently reunited at Polar Capital after leaving Miton last April. The group launched the UK Value Opportunities fund for the duo and it has already doubled in size from £110m at launch in January to £220m, with the firm committing to capping the vehicle at £1.2bn to allow the managers to continue investing in small-cap stocks.
