FE's Crown Ratings rebalance: Strategic bond managers 'struggle to add value'

Just three strat bond funds gain five Crowns

The latest bi-annual rebalance of FE's Crown Ratings has seen the IA Sterling Strategic Bond sector come out worst in terms of the number of top ratings, with only three funds in the sector gaining five Crowns.

Just three of the 73 funds reviewed have received FE's top accolade, representing 4.1% of the total number of funds in the peer group.  These are the GAM Star Credit Opportunities fund, Royal London Ethical Bond, and Sanlam Strategic Bond, which was upgraded from three Crowns previously. However, the F&C Institutional Aggregate Fixed Interest fund was downgraded from five to four Crowns. Meanwhile, 37 strategic bond funds have only gained one Crown, with five funds being downgraded to this level.
