Liontrust to launch UK Micro Cap fund for Cross

Ex-journalist Bates to be co-manager

Liontrust is to launch a UK Micro Cap fund next year, subject to regulatory approval, to be run by UK equity manager Anthony Cross and recent hire and former journalist Victoria Bates.

The group hired Bates earlier this year from finnCap, where she was deputy head of corporate broking, but she has also spent time as diary editor at City AM during her career. The new fund is scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2016 and will also be co-managed by fellow member of the economic advantage team Matt Tonge, who recently joined the team from Liontrust's trading desk. Cross (pictured) already runs the group's £1.5bn Special Situations, £215m UK Growth, and £391m UK Smaller Companies funds, with Bates as co-manager on the small-cap portfolio.
