Hargreaves biggest FTSE winner with 8% gain

Hargreaves Lansdown was the biggest riser in the FTSE 100 index, up 7.5% following its latest set of results.

The rallying wealth manager was closely followed by mining group Anglo American, which was up 5.7% by 4.20pm.  The blue chip index itself climbed 1.3% to around 6,226 on Wednesday afternoon on the back of this strong rally. The biggest loser was pharma giant GlaxoSmithKline, which fell 1.6% after it was revealed that its inhaled medicine Breo failed to prolong life in patients with chronic respiratory disease in clinical trials.
