A Merrill Lynch survey revealed bonds and cash were becoming increasingly popular asset classes among European managers. The Gallup-overseen research into the attitudes of 76 fund managers based on the continent found many were worried about the impact of the year 2000 and equity valuations so were taking more defensive positions. Some 50% of those interviewed said levels were above normal.
