Retains popularity among electorate

After an eventful last couple of months of 2016, this year is once again shaping up as a crucial period for India.

In addition to continued widespread reforms, headlined most notably by last November's demonetisation efforts, local state elections recently completed, representing nearly a quarter of the Indian population. In a positive development, recent election results from five Indian states - Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh - have overwhelmingly supported the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
