Keith Barrett, head of research at Ingenious Asset Management, asks whether outperformance in US healthcare stocks can continue or if it is time to take profits.

The US healthcare sector, ranging from health insurers to medical device makers to biotechnology companies, has risen by an annualised 21% since March 2009, notwithstanding the recent correction. It is easy to see why. An ageing population and the Affordable Care Act are boosting healthcare spending, benefitting the earnings of many healthcare companies.
