UK mid-cap stocks are outperforming the FTSE 100 again this year. For those who know their history, this should not come as a major surprise. In fact, mid caps have outperformed large caps by 96% since the FTSE benchmarks were created 27 years ago.

That is no mean feat given the relatively strong performance of the wider UK market over that period. For all the current fashion for global equity funds, UK fund managers will point out that the UK market has outperformed the global indices over the last quarter of a century.
