The route investors choose to take into the property market will reflect their investment horizons and attitude to risk, and there are a number of options available, writes Alan Gardner, head of research at Ignis Real Estate.

Direct UK commercial property delivered a total return of 2.7% in 2012, according to the latest IPD Quarterly Index. This performance exceeded the level suggested by the Investment Property Forum’s (IPF) Consensus Forecasts issued throughout the year, demonstrating once again the resilience of the asset class against the background of a faltering UK economy.
