Investment trust commentators have highlighted a number of key themes for the closed-ended sector as we head into 2018, with some of them set to gain further momentum.

This year has been an eventful one for investment trusts as average discounts narrowed close to all-time lows of around 3%, and there was a significant pick-up of new issues following just five launches in 2016. Meanwhile, investment company purchases by intermediaries and wealth managers through adviser platforms hit a record high of £514m in the first six months of 2017, according to the latest data from the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), buoyed by UK property and private equity demand.
