What can new Japanese mid- and small-cap index offer investors?

At the end of October, the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Nikkei announced they are to launch a new index - the JPX-Nikkei Mid and Small Cap Index - in early 2017.

The new index will apply similar criteria for inclusion as the JPX-Nikkei 400 Index, first introduced in 2015, by selecting companies that focus on capital efficiency and investor-oriented management. In this case, however, the new index will focus exclusively on mid- and small-cap companies.
