Buffett jumps into second spot on Forbes' 2017 Billionaire List

13% rise in the number of billionaires

Warren Buffett has reclaimed the second spot of the Forbes 2017 Billionaires List, after his wealth grew by $14.8bn in 12 months.

In what was a record year for the rich where the number of billionaires increased by 13% to 2,043 individuals from 1,810 last year, Buffett, the CEO if investment company Berkshire Hathaway known as the 'Oracle of Omaha', is now worth $77bn. He has committed to giving more than 99% of his fortune to charity, according to Forbes. The $14.8bn jump in his wealth comes in the year Donald Trump was elected US President, leading to an equity rally in the US and other developed markets.
