Winterflood's top investment trust picks for 2017

2016 model portfolio underperformed benchmark

Investment trust analysts at Winterflood Securities have put together a model portfolio of investment trusts for the next 12 months, which includes Neil Woodford's Patient Capital trust and Baillie Gifford's £4.4bn Scottish Mortgage investment trust.

The new model portfolio for 2017 sees the disposal of nine names from last year and the addition of 15 new trusts, bringing the total number of holdings to 41 - down from 48 last year. Though last year's portfolio returned 18.1% against a rise of 20.2% for its WMA Balanced index, the team have held onto a number of names they picked for 2016, which they feel are still broadly characterised as funds managed by "proven managers with strong long-term performance records", and "funds that offer a value opportunity often following a management change".
