Retail investment fees in UK remain above 2.5% a year - study

The overall charges paid by retail investors in the UK every year remain above 2.5% on average, having only fallen by one tenth since the Retail Distribution Review (RDR), according to a new study.

Research from Grant Thornton, first published in the Financial Times, has revealed a retail investor purchasing advice and investment products from a single mass market fund group pays on average 2.56% in fees each year. This figure is only down around 10% from the average annual fee in December 2012, the month before the introduction of new rules for financial advisers as part of the RDR. At this time, average fees stood at 2.86%, according to Grant Thornton.
