Assets in short and leveraged ETPs hit record high

AUM rose 14% over 2015

Assets held in short and leveraged exchanged traded products (ETPs) reached a record high of $68.3bn last year, as investors further hedged their market exposure as a result of global volatility.

In the latest quarterly Short & Leveraged (S&L) ETFs and ETPs Global Flows Report from Boost, a WisdomTree company, global assets under management for S&L ETPs were up 14% over 2015. Of those assets, 43% was held in short products and 57% in long products with leverage factors. Three things to know before using leveraged ETFs Equity ETPs were the most popular asset class within the S&L universe with 72% of AUM, followed by debt with 12%, and commodities with 9%.
