Fund managers have urged a return to 'old school' investing, including a focus on fundamentals, as global markets dropped into bear market territory last week.

Escalating concerns about China's slowdown and the impact of lower-for-longer oil prices, after the International Energy Agency warned the market "could drown in oversupply throughout 2016", dealt another blow to global markets after the worst start to the year in at least two decades. The FTSE 100 closed at 5,685 last Wednesday, more than 20% below its intra-day peak of 7,122 in April last year, as tumbling oil prices below $28 a barrel hit UK blue-chips.
