Barclays has appointed former J.P. Morgan investment banker Jes Staley as its new group chief executive.
He will take up his role and join the Barclays boards as a director from 1 December, following earlier widespread rumours of his forthcoming appointment. Staley (pictured) worked at J.P. Morgan for over 30 years and is currenty managing partner at BlueMountain Capital, a US hedge fund he started in 2013. He replaces Antony Jenkins, who was sacked by the bank's board earlier in the summer as the directors called for a change in leadership with a "new set of skills".
