The challenges facing 'difficult' to navigate EMs

BNP Paribas Investment Partners' emerging market strategist Patrick Mange said it is too soon for retail investors to consider investing in EMs again, as the region continues to face a number of headwinds.

Mange (pictured), who has worked at BNP Paribas since 2001, said emerging markets were proving "very difficult" to navigate due to issues such as the slowdown in China and falling commodity prices. The strengthening dollar also means emerging market currencies are no longer fair value and Mange is worried the greenback will strengthen further. He said the problem for retail investors lies in their tendency to think of global emerging markets as a group, rather than exploring which countries could stand out in the future.
