Baillie Gifford's Smith replaced on £1bn Monks trust

Baillie Gifford's global alpha equity team have replaced Gerald Smith as manager of the Monks investment trust as the board seeks to improve performance.

Following a review of performance and management arrangements, Baillie Gifford's Charles Plowden will now take over management of the trust, supported by Spencer Adair and Malcolm MacColl as deputies. The trio have worked on the Edinburgh-based firm’s soft-closed global alpha strategy since 2005. The strategy is home to around £20bn in AUM, mostly via institutional clients. Smith, who has run the portfolio since 2006, remains as a partner at Baillie Gifford, having joined the firm in 1987. Deputy manager Tom Walsh will also remain with the firm running other mandates.
