Former JPM bond manager Anderson joins S&W

Former JPMAM and Gartmore bond manager John Anderson has joined Smith & Williamson Investment Management.

Anderson will manage the group's Fixed Interest trust, alongside Chris Lynas and his team.

He was one of a few high-profile Gartmore managers not to join Henderson Global Investors after the acquisition of his employer in 2011.

Instead, he moved to JPMAM, where he worked as a senior portfolio manager. In 2013, the firm put him at redundancy risk as part of a review of funds, and he left ahead of a decision.

Ed Rosengarten, head of the group's funds business, said: "Fixed interest has an important part to play for asset allocators where it is considered as an integral holding within most portfolios.

"The performance of some of the speculative areas of the fixed interest market has taken these assets close to bubble territory. In this environment, I believe it is important that advisers and clients ensure they have adequate exposure to the more conservative fixed income funds and managers."
