Carmignac Gestion has appointed Lombard Odier manager Michael Hulme to run its commodities fund as David Field takes time out from the industry.

As of next month, energy specialist Hulme will take over management of the €670m (£552m) Carmignac Commodities fund from David Field, who is taking a sabbatical.

He will also be tasked with developing investment ideas that may be implemented across the Carmignac Gestion range.

Carmignac Gestion group founder and chair Edouard Carmignac (pictured) said: “His extensive knowledge in commodities right across the value chain and outstanding track record will be a strong asset to the investment team.”

Hulme has 17 years of industry experience, including managing the Lombard Odier Global Energy Fund since 2010.

He previously worked at MFS International, launching its Global Energy fund in 2009 and managing the energy component of the MFS European Equity and MFS Research International funds.
