Skandia has handed Henderson a £7.2m mandate within its £60m UK Strategic Best Ideas fund.
Henderson's Paul Casson will run the long/short UK equity mandate, replacing Neil Pegrum who ran it before his move to Soros Fund Management earlier this year.
Other managers on the only long/short equity multi-manager fund include Richard Plackett of BlackRock, Tim Steer of Artemis and Phil Hardy of Polar Capital.
"Paul Casson is an experienced long/short manager with proven alpha generation who we have been observing for some time and we are really pleased to give him this mandate," says SIG senior fund manager Ryan Hughes.
"His investment philosophy can best be described as pragmatic; he is very responsive and can adapt to the market around him which has been one of the key characteristics of the success of the Best Ideas funds."
Casson adds: "Skandia is among the early pioneers of equity long/short Ucits III funds. We are very pleased to be part of this product and fully expect it to grow strongly as investor awareness of the benefits of funds such as this increases.
"In a lower growth world the flexible nature of the fund and ability to capitalise on the short side can make a valuable contribution to client returns."
