Stanley Druckenmiller, the manager who helped George Soros make $1bn by ‘breaking’ the Bank of England, plans to retire after thirty years in the industry.
The hedge fund icon has told investors he is worn down by the stress of trying to maintain one of the best trading records in the industry and by running a large amount of capital, Bloomberg reports.
In 1992, Druckenmiller helped Soros come up with trades which helped trigger the devaluation of the British pound.
Druckenmiller's Duquesne Capital Management oversees $12bn and has never had a losing year.
"For 30 years I've been responsible for managing client money and it's been a joy, but at some point I need to move on," Druckenmiller says.
"You may remember that I chose to leave Soros Fund Management 10 years ago because the challenge of managing an enormous amount of capital was having a clear impact on my ability to perform, as well as my state of being
"Unfortunately, as Duquesne has grown, these factors have again emerged."
