Henderson has appointed Mark Harris as head of its £1.13bn multi-manager business, taking over from Bill McQuaker who will concentrate on his head of equities role at the group.

Harris, the former New Star fund of funds head, will assume responsibility of the eight-strong multi-manager team at the start of 2010.

McQuaker will continue to manage the Henderson's £194.3m Income & Growth, £30.6m Distribution and £91m Growth funds. He will also carry on overseeing the management of all of Henderson's equity assets - covering all geographical regions, specialist SRI, multi-manager, technology and hedge funds.

"Mark has a proven and consistent track record of managing fund of funds businesses," McQuaker says.
"I have every confidence that his considerable expertise and the combined talents of the Henderson New Star team will stand us in good stead as we look to regain a pre-eminent position in the multi-manager market.

"I have always enjoyed managing money and will, therefore, continue to do so. I feel this will ensure that my decisions as head of equities are grounded in the practical as well as the strategic."

Mark Harris adds: "Given the depth of knowledge and experience of the combined multi-manager team here at Henderson, I believe we can become the leading provider of multi-manager funds in the UK market.

"I will continue to work closely with Bill on the funds research and strategic development side of things and I look forward to leading the team as we seek to continue to generate consistent long term outperformance for our clients."

In addition, Harris' former New Star colleague Paul Craig will join the multi-manager team. Craig is the lead fund manager of the Cirilium fund range, the joint venture with financial adviser Intrinsic.
