Having languished in the bottom five of the IMA's Europe ex-UK sector for two years, the Baillie Gifford European fund has now moved up to second quartile. According to bid to bid data from Standard & Poors the fund returned 36.42% over the 12 months to 11 April against the sector average of 36.48%. This translated to a ranking of 35 out of 94 funds. While this is still a marginal underperformance of the sector average, it is a marked improvement on its returns over the previous two years.
