Archie Kane, chief executive of Scottish Widows, has replaced Keith Satchell as chairman of the ABI.
Kane was appointed at the ABI's AGM on 18 July, after Satchell concluded his two-year term.
He has been chief executive of Scottish Widows since 2003 and is also group executive director, insurance and investments at Lloyds TSB Group.
Following his appointment, Kane said the association will be looking to new FSA chief executive Hector Sants to continue the momentum behind the regulator's move to principles-based regulation.
Aegon’s Otto Thoresen was also appointed chairman of the ABI life insurance committee at the AGM.
