Equity market volatility looks set to remain significantly elevated in the run up to the EU referendum vote, and there is considerable apprehension over the potential impact on British business in the event of a change in the status quo in June.

Reactions to the possibility of Brexit have ranged from lack of concern, to dire predictions of economic doom. It's easy to be spooked into short-termism when assailed by conflicting research and views. A style favouring high quality, dependable businesses provides downside protection when markets are in a state of flux or outright panic - an environment in which the prices of heavily cyclical shares, or higher-risk 'conceptual' stocks, are often hit hard.
