Spotlight on: Life settlement funds

After several years of bad news for the holders of open-ended but suspended life settlements funds, there is perhaps a glimmer of hope.

Recent mortality data suggests the consistent improvements in life expectancy since the Second World War have stalled. Between 2000 and 2011 average life expectancy in the UK improved by three months per year. However, 2015 looks like being the fourth year in a row of low or negative mortality improvements. This has led some actuaries to believe this could point to either a peak or even a downturn in the trend.
