Global growth investment trusts, which have shown their ability to cope with fluctuation, can offer investors a means of navigating the gloom, writes F&C's Jeremy Tigue

With the financial fallout from the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico weighing on the whole UK stock market and affecting the portfolios of investors on both sides of the Atlantic, advisers would be forgiven for feeling a little gloomy about equity investment. Indeed, the last decade as a whole has been comparatively dreadful for equity investors, making review meetings with clients – particularly those on the verge of retirement – potentially uncomfortable.
