Not unexpected

It's unfortunate that so great a state chose this. Two things are in play: the elimination of businesses and industry from the state from high taxation and frequently arbitrary environmental regulation and the payments for services for 12+ million illegals residing in the state. That problem started with a few farmers back in the 1980s who saw a chance to make more profit by paying illegal labor under the table. Then, other farmers, given a choice of turning those farmers in or joining them, chose to do the same. From there it snowballed. From agriculture to construction to services. All for short term greed to benefit a few businesses at every taxpayer's expense. The costs to hospitals, law enforcement, prisons, schools and so on. I find it unsurprising that the farmers who started this now are having their water supplies cut by environmental skulduggery. "4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty." James 5:4 (NIV)
