Eastspring CIO Maisonneuve: A China that goes back to 12% growth is unsustainable

Virginie Maisonneuve, CIO of Eastspring Investments, has said she remains positive on the world's second largest economy despite China being "the elephant in the room" for Asian equities.

Speaking to Investment Week after joining the firm in November last year, Maisonneuve (pictured) said a lower growth trajectory was positive for China providing there is political stability, as it signaled the maturity of the economy. In the autumn, the leader of China Xi Jinping will attempt to consolidate his power at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party, but on the global stage geopolitical tensions have increased with US President Donald Trump announcing he is prepared to take military action against North Korea.
