One to Watch: AXA Framlington Japan

Japan's equity markets topped performance charts last year, despite ongoing concerns about the effectiveness of Abenomics and the impact of China's slowdown.

According to FE Trustnet, the IA Japanese Smaller Companies sector returned 16.4% over 2015, while the IA Japan sector rose 15.7%, putting them in second and third place over the 12 months. However, global markets have suffered in 2016, including Japan's Nikkei 225 index, which fell into bear market territory last week. Insider knowledge will be key to negotiating these kinds of markets, and Chisako Hardie (pictured), manager of the £64m AXA Framlington Japan fund, has already used this to her advantage, especially given her significant position in lesser-known small-cap names.
