US consumer discretionary stocks to soar as job creation surges

US unemployment rate has fallen to the level considered to be the point at which wage levels should start to pick up - and consumer discretionary stocks will be the ones to benefit, according to Nick Ford, manager of the CF Miton US Opportunities fund

The trend in job creation is a key barometer of a country's economic health and in the US the related data has been exceptionally good. Figures for non-farm payrolls in February showed a gain of 295,000, well above expectations of 235,000 and marking the twelfth straight month payrolls have increased by at least 200,000. The unemployment rate has now fallen to 5.5% - the level considered to be the point at which wage levels should start to pick up. As a result, consumer discretionary stocks are probably worth a look.
